One of our main objectives at mirroRE is to make the structural principles of traditional Iranian mirrorwork both accessible and scalable. These intricate forms, once central to architectural ornamentation, have gradually drifted away from contemporary interior design, largely due to their complexity, time-consuming process, cost, material constraints, and climatic considerations. In this pursuit, we had an inspiring collaboration with More than Layers.
More Than Layers (MTL) is an innovative design studio that specializes in computational design and design for large-scale 3D printing also known as Large Scale Additive Manufacturing (LSAM). Through a process of brainstorming, exploring mutual challenges and possibilities, sharing design proposals, and studying materials, we shaped a dialogue between digital fabrication and handcrafted artistry.
Following several prototyping stages and design iterations, the concept titled Foothills reached its final form and was presented at Dutch Design Week 2025. The expertise of More than Layers, their openness to experimental projects, and their precise guidance during and after the printing phase were essential in achieving this result. Today, this piece is available through the mirroRE store, representing the convergence of cultural heritage and contemporary innovation.
